COMET GOLDFISH

Carassius auratus

Comet Goldfish are beautiful, active and hardy freshwater fish, recognised for their streamlined bodies, long flowing tails and vibrant colours!

These energetic swimmers are a popular choice for outdoor ponds and large coldwater aquariums. With the right care, Comet Goldfish can become long-lived companions, often developing their own personalities and recognising their owners at feeding time.

Although commonly sold as beginner fish, Comet Goldfish grow considerably larger than many people expect and require plenty of swimming space, excellent filtration and regular maintenance.

IMPORTANT CARE REQUIREMENTS

Comet Goldfish are active swimmers that require large, well-filtered aquariums or outdoor ponds with plenty of open swimming space.

Due to their adult size and high waste production, strong biological filtration, regular water changes and good oxygenation are essential.

Goldfish are NOT suitable for bowls or small aquariums.

Comet Goldfish are particularly well suited to outdoor ponds, where they have room to grow, explore and display their natural behaviours.

They should not be housed with tropical fish requiring consistently warm temperatures or with small fish that may be swallowed.

DID YOU KNOW?

Goldfish can recognise familiar people, learn feeding routines and live for over 20 years when provided with suitable care!

Despite their reputation as simple beginner pets, Comet Goldfish are a long-term commitment and can grow to over 30 cm in length.

At Paws & Claws Manawatū, animal welfare comes first. We encourage customers to understand the adult size and long-term requirements of goldfish before purchasing.
