The Jalo Reef Afra is a striking African cichlid from Lake Malawi, known for its bold personality and electric colouring. Males display vibrant blue bodies with contrasting darker barring and flashes of yellow/orange, making them a true standout in any African cichlid setup.

This species is part of the Mbuna group — meaning “rock dweller” — and thrives in rocky aquariums where they can establish territories and show off natural behaviours.

• Tank Size: 200L+ recommended

• Temperament: Semi-aggressive to aggressive

• Diet: Herbivore/omnivore – spirulina-based foods, veggie matter, occasional protein treats

• Temperature: 24–28°C

• pH: 7.5–8.5 (alkaline water)

• Group Setup: Best kept in groups with more females than males to reduce aggression

Provide plenty of rocks and hiding spaces to break line of sight and reduce aggression. Avoid keeping with slow or delicate fish — these guys do best in a proper African cichlid setup with similar species.
