Assorted Mollies – Locally Bred

Our Assorted Mollies are locally bred here in New Zealand and come in a beautiful mixture of colours, patterns and varieties. Mollies are active, social and full of personality, making them a fantastic addition to a suitable tropical community aquarium.

As these are sold as assorted, colours, patterns and varieties will vary depending on what we currently have available.

About Mollies

Mollies belong to the Poecilia genus and originate from freshwater and brackish habitats throughout parts of Central and South America.

They are livebearers, meaning females give birth to live, free-swimming young rather than laying eggs. Mollies are also prolific breeders, so it isn't unusual to discover babies appearing in a well-established aquarium!

Aquarium Compatibility

Mollies are generally peaceful community fish and can be kept alongside many other suitable tropical species, including Platies, Swordtails, Corydoras, Bristlenose Plecos, peaceful Gouramis and other compatible community fish.

They are social fish and we recommend keeping them in a small group rather than individually.

When keeping males and females together, we recommend having more females than males to reduce persistent attention and stress on individual females.

Temperature: Approximately 24–28°C
Adult Size: Approximately 6–10cm depending on variety
Temperament: Peaceful and active
Minimum Tank Size: Approximately 75L+, with larger aquariums recommended for groups.

Mollies appreciate plenty of swimming space alongside planted or sheltered areas. Good filtration, stable water parameters and regular water changes are important.

Mollies generally prefer harder, more alkaline water than many soft-water tropical species, so this should be considered when choosing suitable tank mates.

Diet

Mollies are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet.

Feed a quality tropical flake or small pellet as their staple diet alongside suitable vegetable-based foods and occasional frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia or bloodworms.

Providing variety helps support healthy growth, condition and colour.

Locally Bred

Being locally bred means these Mollies have been raised here in New Zealand rather than travelling through an international import process.

Availability, sizes and colours will vary between batches, which means there's often a great mixture to choose from in store.
