Mango Leaves for Aquariums
Mango leaves are a natural botanical additive used to create healthier, more natural freshwater aquarium environments. Dried mango leaves release beneficial tannins and organic compounds that help replicate soft, blackwater conditions found in many tropical habitats.
They are an excellent alternative or complement to Indian Almond (Catappa) leaves and are popular in shrimp tanks, betta tanks, and breeding setups.
Key Benefits
-
Releases natural tannins and humic substances
-
Helps create soft, slightly acidic water conditions
-
Encourages natural behaviour and reduces stress
-
May provide mild antibacterial and antifungal support
-
Promotes biofilm growth for shrimp and fry
-
Adds natural shelter and enrichment
As mango leaves break down, they create a tea-coloured tint in the water. This is normal and beneficial for many soft-water species.
Ideal For

-

How to Use
-
Rinse lightly before placing in the aquarium.
-
Add 1 leaf per 20–40L depending on tank size and desired tannin level.
-
Leaves may float initially and will sink within a few days.
-
Replace every 2–4 weeks or as they naturally break down.
Monitor water parameters in smaller aquariums, as tannins may gradually lower pH in soft water setups.

-
Supports a more authentic tropical environment
-
Affordable alternative to other botanical leaves
-
Safe for fish, shrimp, and most freshwater species
