Pantodon Butterfly Fish (African Butterfly Fish)

A truly unique surface-dwelling fish, the Pantodon Butterfly Fish is known for its large wing-like pectoral fins and prehistoric appearance. Native to the slow-moving waters of West Africa, these fascinating fish spend most of their time at the surface waiting to ambush insects and other small prey.

Adult Size: Up to 12cm
Temperament: Predatory but generally peaceful with similarly sized tank mates
Tank Size: 120L+ recommended
Diet: Floating pellets, insects, crickets, mealworms, and frozen foods
Water Parameters: 24–30°C, pH 6.0–7.5

Due to their surface-dwelling nature, a secure lid is essential as they are excellent jumpers. Best kept with fish too large to fit in their mouths and in aquariums with calm water movement.
